I was watching a RealPlayer video on Windows, and I wanted to continue watching it on my Mac. So in Windows RealPlayer I selected the convenient command "Record this Clip" which generated an "Internet Video Recording" .IVR file. I copied this file over to my Mac but RealPlayer the does not recognize it! It doesn't even recognize the .IVR extension.

A couple of weeks ago Garrett Humbertson, "a senior at Calvary Christian Academy, the son of Gary and Lisa Humbertson", wrote an essay about how the fossils found at Cumberland Bone Cave could only be explained by Creationism and The Flood.

Well, a couple of days ago G.M. Schindel posted a nice rebuttal in the same newspaper:

"… The Bible is not a book of science. The fields of biology, geology, paleontology, physics, chemistry and genetics have generated huge amounts of data that show that evolution is a fact that best explains the insurmountable evidence of the complexity of life and how humans arrived on the earth. Yes, one of your closer relatives is a slime mold.

Mr. Humbertson, I don't know if it's too late to free your mind or not. However, you are young and there is hope. Leave home, go to a nice non-church affiliated college, explore the world, read some different (better) books, join the military, live in another culture, think for yourself, write about what you know, learn what you don't know, be wary of absolutes, and try to avoid drinking the special Kool-Aid."

Poor kid.

The 5-4 high court decision bars taxpayers from challenging initiative

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled Monday that ordinary taxpayers cannot challenge a White House initiative that helps religious charities get a share of federal money.

The 5-4 decision blocks a lawsuit by a group of atheists and agnostics against eight Bush administration officials including the head of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.

The taxpayers' group, the Freedom From Religion Foundation Inc., objected to government conferences in which administration officials encourage religious charities to apply for federal grants.

Executive Actions to Promote Religion Ruled Beyond Court Scrutiny

"This means we have a constitutional separation between church and state, but no way to enforce it if the executive branch chooses to violate it with 'discretionary' actions," added Dan Barker, a plaintiff and Foundation co-president. The Foundation is the largest association of atheists and agnostics in the U.S., whose 10,000 members work to keep church and state separate.

"Separation of powers is supposed to provide checks and balances. It is quite an oversight to deny oversight!" Barker commented.

Germany has banned the makers of Tom Cruise's new movie from filming at military sites in the country because the actor is a Scientologist.

The German defense ministry said Cruise has "publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult".

Scientology masquerades as a religion to make money, Germany said, but leaders of the church reject this.

Scientology has been monitored in Germany in the belief that its activities are "directed against the free democratic order" in the country.
